  • Sean E.H. Strain, DVM, cEqD, cIAED
    Dr. Sean Strain was born and raised in Langley, British Columbia, Canada. He graduated from Ross University School of Veterinary Medicine in 2002. He proceeded and performed a 1 year internship at Merritt and Associates Equine Hospital in Chicago, IL. From there he practiced at Annabessacook Veterinary Clinic in Monmouth, ME. In 2007 Dr. Strain opened Strain Equine Services, LLC., where he specializes in equine dental equilibration and extraction, as well as equine lameness/sports medicine. In 2014 Dr. Strain certified with the Academy of Equine Denistry in Glenns Ferry, Idaho and became certified with International Association of Equine Dentistry (IAED). Shortly after that he became a board member for the IAED. Dr. Strain in 2016 became the head veterinarian at the AED where he teaches with some of the top equine dental practioners and veterinarians in the world. In his spare he can be found hunting, doing tough mudders, and spending time with his wife Kelly and children Kaitlyn and Callen.

  • Brooke Johnson, DVM, cVMA
    Dr. Brooke Johnson (Martin) was born and raised on a farming and ranching operation in South Dakota. She attended Chadron State College in western Nebraska for her undergraduate studies followed by veterinary school at Kansas State University, graduating in 2009. After graduation, she completed a one-year equine internship at Glenwood Veterinary Clinic in Glenwood Springs, Colorado prior to returning to the Kansas City area. She practiced mixed animal medicine in the Northland prior to joining Strain Equine Services 2011. Dr. Johnson and her husband Skeet with their children Mason, Cole, Cody, and Caycee reside outside of Basehor with their menagerie of animals.

  • Cherie Greenwood, Practice Manager

    Cherie was born and raised in the Kansas City area. She grew up around horses and enjoyed barrel racing. She was a small animal technician for 4 years prior to joining Strain Equine in 2009 as a technician and then moved to the office. When she is not at the clinic she enjoys spending time with her twin daughters Abigayle and Mackenzine, husband Nick and their herd of horses.

  • Kelly Strain, Office Manager

    Kelly grew up near Chicago, IL. She met Dr. Sean Strain while he was doing his internship in Illinois. After Dr. Strain’s internship was over, she moved to Maine with him and earned her Bachelor’s Degree from the University of Maine. In 2007, Kelly and Sean got married and a few months later, opened Strain Equine Services. Kelly has 2 children, Kaitlyn and Callen, and a lab named Rye. When she has free time, she enjoys going to the gym, spending time with family, reading and hiking.

  • Alexa Siguenza, Veterinary Assistant

    Alexa was originally raised in New Jersey, she moved to Kansas 5 years ago after her great grandmother passed away. In 2015 she graduated from Tonganoxie High School and pursued a career in nursing. While in college she got a job as an emergency room technician. Alexa worked there for 2 years, before deciding to change her career path and leave human healthcare all together. She joined Strain Equine Services in summer of 2017 to fulfill her love for horses and taking care of animals. When she is not working, she loves to spend time on the farm with her two dachshunds, Pappi and Apollo, and Pepper along with her two horses, Hope and Blaze.

  • Brandie Tryban, Veterinary Assistant

    Born and raised in Wichita, Kansas, Brandie always has had a passion for horses. Before meeting her husband, she was a medical assistant to a very busy family practice group. After starting her family, she decided to pursue her passion of animals and leave her fitness training background to go back to the medical field. But, this time, with the emphasis on animals. Brandie comes to Strain Equine Services with experience in the equine rescue world (focusing on horses of various personalities and backgrounds) where she adopted her own very busy minded OTTB mare, Top Park. Brandie’s family life keeps her extremely busy with her four kids (Maddy, Sam, Harry and Olivia), husband (Patrick), and fur babies (ex-racehorse, Topper; chocolate lab puppy, KC; calico cat, Piper; yellow bellied slider turtle, Jimmy).  You can typically find Brandie either working, at the ball field or at the barn!
